Zometa Fundraiser

So, Canadian health care is great and has provided me with tons and tons of free treatment however, its not all free.

My doctor has recommended that I start taking a medication called Zometa. It is a bone-building injection administered every 6 months that has shown that when taken by breast cancer survivors the chance of recurrence goes way down. The government is waiting on more studies though before it will be considered a cancer prevention medication and therefore be covered by OHIP or the Trillium Drug Plan.

So, each injection costs around $700. I've already applied and was accepted in to a program called Zometa Access that will absorb 50% of the cost. That leaves me to foot a bill, every 6 months, of $350 per injection. This cancer shit ain't cheap.

Its not necessarily that I can't afford it however its gonna add up and its the principle behind it. I'm looking for some fund-raising ideas to help with some of the cost. Anyone have any ideas?

  2. Maybe some sort of cool, customized T-shirt drive. You could get some of your chest medical imaging data (it's your right to have it), I can process it, and you can put a slice of your chest CT on a shirt. I'd totally buy one.

  4. I know this is random, but i stumbled upon your blog. I'm currently working on a fuck breast cancer awareness for my graphic design senior show exhibition and i just recently met with a young breast cancer survivor who had also struggled with raising money for her treatments let along keeping her apartment. Her friends put a fundraiser together within her community which is fairly small. They did a breakfast fundraiser with local bakeries that donated TONS of food. She said they raised over 5,000 dollars for her which helped support her financially with keeping a roof over her head as well as treatment. So checking with your local businesses could be another outlet as far donations. i hope this helps!
